RFQ readiness check
See what is missing before suppliers quote: drawings (2D + STEP where needed), quantities, quality asks, and commercial terms. Works for precision (CNC, forging, casting), packaging, and general mechanical. Copy what is still open, then send. Nothing is uploaded.

What are you sourcing?
CNC, turning, casting, forging, sheet, grind, EDM: anything quoted from a drawing.
Programme stage
FAI/PPAP and in-scope plant certificates are must-haves. Prototype eases plant certificate asks; drawings and quantities still matter.
Mark what is already in the RFQ package. Must-have items keep bids comparable; the rest cuts clarification cycles.

How it works
How RFQ readiness works
A ready RFQ gives every supplier the same technical and commercial starting point. When drawings, quantities, quality asks, and delivery terms differ by bidder, the lowest price often means less work, not a better plant. This tool is a pre-send checklist so quotes stay comparable across precision (CNC, forging, casting), packaging, and general mechanical packs.
What buyers check before they send
| Layer | Why it matters | In this tool |
|---|---|---|
| Drawings & specs | Part identity, PDF + STEP, material grade, CTQs / GD&T, finish, and process scope (CNC, forging, casting, secondary ops). | Technical group |
| Volume & timing | Sample, first release, and annual quantities plus need-by dates so setup, dies, and patterns price honestly. | Volume group |
| Quality & evidence | CoC, MTC, FAI/PPAP, NDT where needed, and plant certificates in scope so documentation is priced in. | Quality group |
| Commercial terms | Response deadline, ship-to, Incoterms or delivery basis, currency and payment expectations. | Commercial group |
Stage changes the must-haves
Prototype eases plant certificate and FAI/PPAP asks; drawings and quantities still matter for CNC, forging, and casting. Pilot and series treat in-scope certificates and first-article expectations as must-haves so qualification is not an afterthought.
Specs you cannot see from outside
Some precision parts fail after a clean CMM report: intersecting passages, valve cavities, and sealing lands need stated cleanliness, deburr, and sometimes a pressure or leak test. Mark those optional lines in the checklist when they apply, and say whether fixtures or process development are a priced NRE. Unit price alone will not make those bids comparable.
After the RFQ is ready, many teams build a should-cost target and a supplier fit brief before they issue the pack.
Worked example
RFQ readiness example (CNC valve block, pilot)
Illustrative multi-face aluminium valve block at pilot. Drawing identity and quantities look solid, but internal cleanliness, leak-test scope, FAI docs, and delivery basis are still open. Those gaps make bids hard to compare even when every shop has a CNC mill. Directional example for education, not a live RFQ.
| Item | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Part number, description, revision | Covered | Valve block VB-118 Rev B on the title block |
| Drawing set (PDF + STEP, same rev) | Covered | PDF governs; STEP for multi-face CNC geometry |
| Material grade, temper, heat treat | Covered | Al 7075-T6 bar, not generic aluminium |
| CTQs / critical tolerances and GD&T | Covered | Cavity interfaces and sealing lands called out |
| Process route / setups | Covered | Multi-face mill; fixture NRE expected as a line |
| Quantity scenarios | Covered | 3 sample / 25 pilot / 200 annual |
| Internal cleanliness / deburr | Open | No acceptance class or verification method stated |
| Functional / pressure test scope | Open | Leak test mentioned verbally; not on the RFQ |
| Quality docs + FAI expectation | Open | Pilot stage: say what must be priced in |
| Ship-to / delivery basis | Open | No named place or Incoterms |
In the workspace, mark the optional cleanliness, functional-test, and NRE lines when the part has passages or cavities. Readiness rises when must-haves are covered; copy what is still missing before you send.
RFQ readiness FAQ
Tool usage answers. Method and CNC worked example are above. Related: should-cost model · supplier fit brief.
- What should a CNC or precision machining RFQ include?
- A controlled drawing set (dimensioned PDF plus STEP), part number and revision, named material and temper, CTQs / GD&T, quantity scenarios, need-by dates, quality docs (CoC, MTC, FAI), plant certificates in scope, and delivery or Incoterms so every machine shop prices the same scope.
- Do forging and casting RFQs need both a 2D drawing and a STEP file?
- Yes in most cases. The model carries near-net geometry; the drawing owns tolerances, machining stock, material grade, heat treat, and NDT or inspection notes. State which file governs if they differ. Screenshots alone are not quote-ready.
- Is this manufacturing RFQ checklist free?
- Yes. No signup and no upload. Mark what is already in your pack, see must-haves still open, and copy a missing-items list on your device.
- How is prototype different from pilot or series for precision parts?
- Prototype eases plant certificate and FAI/PPAP asks; drawings and quantities still matter for CNC, forging, and casting. Pilot and series treat in-scope certificates and first-article expectations as must-haves.
- Can I use this for forging and casting as well as CNC?
- Yes. Choose Precision / machined & formed. That checklist covers drawing-quoted routes: CNC, turning, forging, casting, sheet, grind, and EDM. Process scope and quality evidence still need to be explicit.
- Does this cover packaging or general mechanical RFQs?
- Yes. Switch to Packaging for format, substrate, print, and artwork control, or General mechanical for a shorter comparable-quote list. Precision stays the path for CNC, forging, and casting.
- What if the part has internal passages or valve cavities?
- Use the optional precision lines for internal cleanliness / deburr, functional or pressure test scope, and fixture or process-development NRE. External dimensional docs alone will not make those quotes comparable.
- Where is my RFQ data stored?
- On your device only. Nothing is uploaded to Augmino when you use this free tool.
- How does this relate to Augmino?
- Augmino connects buyers with verified manufacturers. Use this check before you send an RFQ. Apply as a buyer when you want supplier introductions for parts you source.
- Quick steps
- 1. Choose what you are sourcing. Pick precision / machined & formed (CNC, forging, casting), packaging, or general mechanical so the checklist matches the quote path.
- 2. Set the programme stage. Prototype, pilot / qualification, or series production. Stage changes which quality items are must-haves.
- 3. Mark what is already in the pack. Check drawings, quantities, quality docs, and commercial terms you already have.
- 4. Finish must-haves and copy what is open. Close remaining must-haves, copy the missing-items list, then send the same revision to every bidder.
