How it works
How a supplier fit brief works
Before you RFQ a plant, you need the same verification spine every time: who they are, what they can run, which certificates are in scope, and what proof you have actually seen. A logo on a profile is not confirmation. This tool builds that checklist from the job, then turns open items into RFI questions you can paste.
Layers buyers verify
| Layer | What you are checking | In this tool |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Legal entity, plant address, manufacturer vs trader disclosure. | Identity & legitimacy |
| Process fit | CNC machines, forge or casting route, materials, inspection, and part-family process knowledge (route, fixtures, internal features) matched to the job. | Manufacturing capability |
| Quality system | In-scope certificates (ISO, IATF, AS9100...) for the site that will run the work. | Quality standards |
| Execution evidence | Sample CMM or NDT reports, FAI/PPAP, CoC/MTC examples when the full pre-award check is on. | Execution evidence |
| Capacity & commercial | Load, lead-time realism, die/pattern ownership, change/IP handling, and commercial terms when you go deep. | Full pre-award check |
Proof marks that matter
Confirmed means you saw evidence. Claimed only means it is on a profile or verbal. Missing / failed means you asked and it was not there. Fit score rises when must-haves are confirmed, not when they are claimed.
Machine list is not the same as part-family fit
Two shops can own similar CNC centres and still differ on multi-face workholding, internal deburr and cleanliness, cavity gauging, and who owns functional testing. Select Internal passages / valve cavities when that is the job so those checks appear before you RFQ.
Pair this with an RFQ readiness check so the pack you send matches the plant you verified, and a should-cost when you need a price baseline.
Worked example
Supplier fit example (CNC block with internal passages)
Illustrative aerospace pilot job: a multi-face CNC block with drilled galleries and cartridge-style cavities (think fluid-control hardware). The shop clearly has milling capacity, but route/fixture planning, internal cleanliness, and cavity gauging are still open. A machine list alone is not enough for this part family. Directional example for education, not a live supplier assessment.
| Check | Mark | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Legal manufacturing entity | Confirmed | Certificate name matches quotation letterhead |
| Factory site for this process | Confirmed | Named plant address; not head-office only |
| 3-axis / 4-axis CNC milling | Confirmed | Machine list matches envelope; similar prismatic work shown |
| Machining route and workholding plan | Claimed only | Verbal multi-setup story; no written ops / fixture outline |
| Internal deburr and cleanliness method | Missing | No named process or verification for passage intersections |
| Cavity / interface gauging | Not reviewed | CMM sample only; cavity gauges not yet evidenced |
| AS9100 in scope | Claimed only | Logo on website; certificate PDF not yet seen |
In the workspace, turn on Internal passages / valve cavities under capabilities to surface these checks. Confirmed items drop out of the RFI pack so you only chase what is still open.
Supplier fit FAQ
Tool usage answers. Method and CNC + forging example are above. Related: RFQ readiness check · should-cost model.
- How do I verify a CNC machine shop before RFQ?
- Confirm legal manufacturing entity and plant address, match machines and materials to the job, mark certificates Confirmed only with evidence, and ask for sample dimensional reports. Logos on a profile are Claimed only until you see the PDF.
- What should I check on a forging or casting supplier?
- Route fit (hot/cold/upset forge; sand, die, or investment cast), press or melt capacity, die or pattern ownership, alloy and heat-treat control, NDT where required, and in-scope quality certificates for the site that will run the work.
- How do I check a shop for parts with internal passages or cavities?
- Select Internal passages / valve cavities under capabilities. The brief then asks for machining route and workholding, internal deburr and cleanliness method, cavity or interface gauging, and a functional or pressure-test path if your RFQ needs it.
- What is the difference between Confirmed and Claimed only?
- Confirmed means you saw evidence (certificate PDF, machine list, sample CMM or NDT report). Claimed only means it appears on a profile or was stated verbally. Fit score rewards confirmed must-haves, not claims.
- Is this supplier verification checklist free?
- Yes. No signup and no upload. Marks and RFI text stay on your device.
- When should I use the full pre-award check?
- When you are close to RFQ or award on a CNC, forging, or casting programme and need capacity, commercial terms, change/IP handling, and deeper execution evidence, not only a first capability screen.
- Where is my supplier data stored?
- On your device only. Nothing is uploaded to Augmino when you use this free tool.
- How does this relate to Augmino?
- Augmino connects buyers with verified precision manufacturers. Use this brief before you RFQ CNC, forging, or casting plants. Apply as a buyer when you want introductions matched to a serious requirement.
- Quick steps
- 1. Describe the job. Set industry, process family (CNC, forging, casting, packaging, and related), materials, volume stage, and the quality bar the plant must meet.
- 2. Choose check depth. Use a first capability screen, or turn on the full pre-award check for capacity and commercial layers.
- 3. Mark what you have verified. Tag each item Confirmed, Claimed only, Missing / failed, or Not reviewed.
- 4. Copy open RFI questions. Paste questions for everything still open, then chase evidence before you send the RFQ.
